Eve Chariatte

The Trigger Track Collective was founded in 2010 by a group of dancers who had recently graduated from the SEAD training programme. The members of the collective chose to move to Vienna to begin their shared artistic activities.

Anna Jarrige, Costas Kekis, Eve Chariatte, Fie Dam Mygind, Pascale Utz, Marie-Louise Nielsen and Mirja Brunberg share a common interest in experimentation and in developing themselves as dancers, performers, creators and artists. They come from different backgrounds and have different perspectives. They aim to generate creative discourse through encounters, classes and artistic work. All members share equal responsibility for investing in the Trigger Track Collective. Artistic experiences are created in which they expose themselves to one another and the collective to the art world.

I met Costas in Salzburg, where we were roommates, colleagues and friends. We then lived in Vienna for three years, where we co-created the Trigger Track Collective and a duo, Ultra XYX, in 2012, which was presented at Palais Kabelwerk in Vienna, Zeitraumexit Mannheim, PAD Mainz, and Dampfzentrale Bern as part of Tanzfaktor.

“The costume is queer. The scenery is selected. The lights are changing. The prop is elastic. The person is designed. The mood is huge. This work is ultramodern. That’s Eve. That’s Costas.”

A male-female dance duet does not necessarily have to end with a classic love story. Traditional gender roles are playfully embellished by presenting popular gender clichés with plenty of humour. This is an interpretation of the new, “ultramodern” form of the pas de deux in the third millennium. In trying to suppress our own heteronormativity, we end up creating a queer stage soap opera.
